What TGI Checks During Instrument Inspection
Published
The short answer
TGI checks the steel when it arrives, against the mill's certificate, and then inspects the finished instruments by line: a visual and dimensional check on a sample for Economy, a boil test for Clinical, a hardness test on a tighter sample for Premium, and 100% inspection for Executive. Every line is passivated. Each test is named with the published method that defines it, so a buyer can look up what it proves.
What happens when the steel arrives?
Every batch of steel is ordered to a specified grade and arrives with the mill's own certificate, which identifies the mill and states the grade. TGI checks the material at the factory against its own requirement before it goes into production. That check is TGI's own inspection, not an independent laboratory test.
What is inspected on each line?
Line: Economy; Steel: AISI 410; The inspection step: sample: visual + dimensional.
Line: Clinical; Steel: AISI 420; The inspection step: sample + boil test.
Line: Premium; Steel: AISI 420-440C; The inspection step: tighter sample + hardness test.
Line: Executive; Steel: AISI 440C; The inspection step: 100% inspection + laser mark.
Line: Hollowware, Clinical; Steel: AISI 202; The inspection step: passivation, dimensional.
Line: Hollowware, Premium and Executive; Steel: AISI 304; The inspection step: passivation, dimensional.
What does each test prove?
Dimensional and visual inspection: whether the article matches its own drawing (length, jaw, ratchet, joint) and whether the finish is clean and the marking correct. There is no single international method; it is measured against the article's own drawing and the agreed specification for the order.
Corrosion resistance, the boil test: whether the protective surface layer actually holds. Instruments are held in boiling water, then examined for rust, staining or pitting. Published methods: ASTM F1089, and ISO 13402 for hand instruments.
Passivation: whether the protective film was properly restored after grinding and polishing, checked by an immersion that makes any free iron visible. Published method: ASTM A967.
Hardness: whether the heat treatment reached the hardness the grade is capable of holding. Published method: ISO 6508 (Rockwell, the HRC figure); ISO 6507 is the Vickers equivalent.
What does TGI not claim?
This matters as much as what it does check:
TGI does not claim certification, accreditation or third-party testing to any of the standards named above. They are published methods, named so each inspection step can be looked up and understood.
No hardness figure is published, deliberately. A published HRC range describes a heat treatment, and TGI states no figure for its own.
No autoclave cycle count is published for any line.
Which quality system covers it?
Manufactured under the quality management system covered by TGI's ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 13485:2016 certificates. Certificate numbers and the issuer's registry are on the certification page.
What happens if something gets through?
If something is wrong with a delivery (a manufacturing defect, or a short or wrong article), tell TGI on WhatsApp within 7 days of delivery, with a video and photographs of what arrived. Replacement instruments are sent free of charge and dispatched within 24 hours of TGI seeing them; you pay the shipping.
Damage that happened after the goods left Sialkot is a claim against your carrier. The video of your parcel at the shipping office is sent to you before shipment and is the evidence that claim needs.
